Theme cakes with the gift built in
Tell Michelle what your child loves and she'll build the cake around it — printed images, fondant characters, buttercream piping, layers in different flavours. Her favourite trick: working a real present into the design. One five-year-old described her dream cake and got exactly that — a big toy unicorn on top, mini ponies and paper fairies “flying” around it. Another party got a swimming-pool cake with a blue jelly pool and dolls swimming in it. The cake gets eaten; the toys get kept.

Cupcakes for parties
Cupcakes work brilliantly when everyone wants their own little design. Michelle recently made 36 cupcakes, each with a different complex design, delivered to Port Douglas. A dozen starts at $40; she'll take up to 50 cupcakes on one week's notice.
